RLV 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Memorial Day Weekend
Friday, May 25 – Monday, May 28, 2018

Rancho Linda Vista has turned 50!!

This year—in 2018—Rancho Linda Vista achieved its 50th year as a community of the arts. In celebration of this amazing experiment in creative community and art practice, we had a gathering of friends and family, near and far, over the course of the Memorial Day weekend.

All in all, the weekend proved a remarkable success, and in many ways served to acknowledge the many ways in which RLV has created longlasting connections

To recap, on Friday we kicked off with a poetry reading by the participants of our inaugural poetry workshop, Telling Lives. Participating poets included workshop leaders William Pitt Root and Pamela Uschuk, along with Angela La Voie, Jane Hipkins Sobie, Teri Hairston, Susan Foster, Larry Griffin, Dave Ryan, Elizabeth Hellstern, Mary Jane White, Mark Lee, and Whitney Judd.

Saturday morning began with house tours and breakfast burros, followed by open studios and exhibit openings. At RLV Gallery one could find works by current Ranch residents and their family members. Down the road, at the Wilson Barn, works were gathered and displayed by RLV’s wide circle of friends—including former residents, shareholders, and those who have created deep ties to the Ranch over the years. And at Cook House, Chuck Sternberg opened his doors to a display of architectural drawings and historic (pre-1968) ranch photos.

In the evening, some 200 people enjoyed supper on the Lodge’s east and west patios, catered by Emily Nelson who grew up in the very same structure. Afterwards they kicked up their heels to the cumbia-klezmer-soul sounds of Jerusafunk and the Indie-world music of Los Puchos.

On Sunday, at a meeting in the barnyard stakeholders were able to share ideas about future directions and challenges. At 4, everyone regrouped at Triangle L, where an exhibit highlighting RLV’s many guest artists over the years is currently on display.
